On asteroid retrieval missions enabled by invariant manifold dynamics

چکیده

In recent years, the retrieval of entire asteroids has received significant attention, with many approaches leveraging invariant manifolds Circular-Restricted Three-body Problem to capture an asteroid into a periodic orbit about L1 or L2 points Sun–Earth system. Previous works defined ‘Easily Retrievable Object’ (ERO) as any Near-Earth Object (NEO) which is retrievable using these impulsive Δv less than 500m∕s. We extend previous literature by analysing Pareto fronts for EROs discovered first time, high-performance computing lift optimisation constraints used in literature, and modifying method filter unsuitable NEOs from NEO catalogue. doing so, we can demonstrate that have approximately same transfer cost almost possible including single-impulse transfers, could offer flexibility mission designers. also identify 44 EROs, 27 are new, improve on previously-known solutions up 443m∕s, 17 new trajectories costs 100m∕s.

The Orbital Dynamics Environment of 433 Eros: A Case Study for Future Asteroid Missions

The Near-Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR)–Shoemaker mission was a milestone in that it represented the practical navigation of a spacecraft in the most severely perturbed orbital environment (relative to the standard two-body problem) ever experienced by a spacecraft. Furthermore, all future asteroid orbital missions will encounter environments similar, in some way, to the environment encounter...

Invariant manifold reductions for Markovian ion channel dynamics.

We show that many Markov models of ion channel kinetics have globally attracting stable invariant manifolds, even when the Markov process is time dependent. The primary implication of this is that, since the dimension of the invariant manifold is often substantially smaller than the full master equation system, simulations of ion channel kinetics can be substantially simplified, with no approxi...

Sesame Opens: a Precursor to Human Asteroid Missions

A common path for human spaceflight is currently often envisioned to lead to Near Earth Asteroids (NEA) within the next decades. While the goal is clear this is not so true for the targets. Just as unmanned probes investigated the lunar surface before humans ever set foot on our natural satellite, it is advisable – considering the current lack of knowledge about NEAs even mandatory – to send an...

An Image Retrieval Method Based on Manifold Learning with Scale-Invariant Feature Control

Aiming at the problem of the traditional dimensionality reduction methods cannot recover the inherent structure, and scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) achieving low precision when reinstating images, an Image Retrieval Method Based on Manifold Learning with Scale-Invariant Feature is proposed. It aims to find low-dimensional compact representations of high-dimensional observation data an...

On the Quantum Invariant for the Spherical Seifert Manifold

We study the Witten–Reshetikhin–Turaev SU(2) invariant for the Seifert manifold S/Γ where Γ is a finite subgroup of SU(2). We show that the WRT invariants can be written in terms of the Eichler integral of the modular forms with half-integral weight, and we give an exact asymptotic expansion of the invariants by use of the nearly modular property of the Eichler integral. We further discuss that...
